Mission Statement To plan and hold a year-long series of programs and events designed by the Mission Hill community that acknowledge and embrace our diversity as a strength while bringing into focus the aspects of diversity that divide and hold us back; to encourage thoughtful discourse and shared learning leading to enhanced individual and community awareness and acceptance; to develop enlightened approaches together that will help us work toward mutual understanding, stronger community and a new reliance on one another.
The vision for the Harmony On The Hill initiative was conceived as the 20th anniversary of the murder in Mission Hill of Carol DiMaiti Stuart approached. The aftermath of the 1989 murder was tragic for the DiMaiti family and for individuals and families in the Mission Hill community who lived through the racially charged aftermath. The ensuing investigation and intense national media coverage helped create a climate of fear and suspicion and tarnished the reputation of a proud community. One year after the murder, The DiMaiti family responded to this outrage by establishing a scholarship fund for Mission Hill youth and the community came together to hold the memorable “Mission Hill in Harmony” concert at the Mission Church which raised $20,000.00 for the scholarship fund. Whether you are a Mission Hill resident, community organization, elected official, institution or corporation, Harmony On The Hill needs your help. Please email us with your contact information (include your name, phone, email and mailing address) and tell us how you want to get involved. Tell your friends, neighbors and colleagues about Harmony On The Hill! January 4, 2010 - Chronicle HD, Channel 5: WCVB Boston |
